Universal health coverage – global health challenges

Universal health coverage - global health challenges

20.11.2024

Question for written answer E-002589/2024
to the Commission
Rule 144
András Tivadar Kulja (PPE)

The EU4Health programme has demonstrated the EU's leadership in channelling resources and expertise into health systems by supporting initiatives tackling cross-border health threats, improving disease prevention and ensuring access to high-quality healthcare. Its focus on global challenges adds to the EU's global health strategy. While the establishment of EU4Health and the global health strategy were major achievements of the last mandate, they need to be sustained and strengthened in the current mandate to ensure equitable access to quality health systems across Member States and globally.

  • 1.How will the Commission guarantee that EU funding addresses global health inequalities while at the same time reinforcing public health and resilience against future global health crises?
  • 2.How will it ensure that a suitable share of the health programme continues to focus on global challenges, covering an amount of at least 12.5 % of the future budget?
  • 3.How will it guarantee that the EU's global health leadership advances toward fostering a partnership with increased investment in global health, aiming to make universal health coverage a reality by 2030?
