Heads of Mission trip to the Departments of San José and Maldonado

The Ambassadors of the Member States toured the Departments of San José and Maldonado, within the framework of the European Union tour throughout Uruguay.

San José

In San José, they were welcomed by Mayor Ana María Bentaberri Alpuy and other municipal authorities to learn about the department's context and projects.

Later, they visited the iconic Macció Theater.

They attended a presentation on the status of EU-supported projects in the department, including composting, domestic oil recycling, and decentralization initiatives. Additionally, the "San José más Verde" project and the Socio-Environmental Education Center were presented, with the participation of local authorities and business representatives.

They toured the Basilica Cathedral of San José with the department's Bishop, followed by the ceremonial planting of a native Timbó tree and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

In the afternoon, they visited Bader, one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-quality leather, supplying major automotive markets through local production plants and an international supplier network. The visit included a plant tour and an institutional presentation.

The day concluded at the Granmolino S.A. sheep farm, where they explored and learned about the dairy operation.

Maldonado

The ambassadors began their day at the Agroindustrial Talar establishment, where they visited the dairy farm, toured the production facilities, and sampled various products.

They were later received by Mayor Enrique Antía and his team to discuss the department's realities, objectives, and challenges. Following the meeting, a press conference was held for local media. A native Timbó tree was planted, and a commemorative plaque was unveiled.

The Ambassadors had lunch with entrepreneurs and members of civil society, followed by a tour of Punta del Este to observe planned developments in the port and free trade zone areas.

In the afternoon, they visited the Arboretum Lussich to learn more about the EU-supported Innova project.

The day ended with a visit to Casa Pueblo at sunset, accompanied by a cultural performance.

We want to, once again, extend our gratitude to the authorities of both departments for their warm reception and for allowing us to enjoy such enriching experiences.
