The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a plans display for a project to replace the Route 209/North Valley Street Bridge over Mine Hollow Run in New Philadelphia Borough, Schuylkill County. For those interested in learning more about this project, a public plans display is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 6:00 PM at New Philadelphia Borough Hall located at 15 Macomb Street, New Philadelphia, PA, 17959.
The project will be presented during the regularly scheduled Borough Supervisors Meeting. During the presentation, subject boards will be displayed to show the different facets of the project. The plans will also be on display and available for approximately one month on PennDOT's website at Schuylkill County Public Meetings (pa.gov).
The substructure consists of reinforced concrete abutments with integral wingwalls. The superstructure exhibits heavy spalling with exposed reinforcement and severe section loss. Both abutments exhibit deep spalling and cracking. The existing structure has deteriorated to a level where the bridge needs to be replaced.
The 10 feet long, 35.5 feet wide Route 209 bridge was constructed in 1938, widened in 1949 and has an average daily traffic volume of 4,288 vehicles.
The proposed replacement structure is a 40 feet long, 16 feet wide precast concrete box culvert with wingwalls. The structure approach roadway will be reconstructed as required including installation of guiderail. In general, the project is anticipated to maintain the existing roadway and stream alignment. During construction the plan is to maintain traffic by constructing the culvert in stages.
The project is currently in design, and you have the opportunity to review the information and provide comments. The virtual plans display will be available to view online from November 19 to December 19, 2024.
The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project.
The project documents can be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. If you need translation/interpretation services or have special needs or have special concerns that require individual attention, please contact PennDOT Project Manager Laura Montgomery, at
