Today, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) announced his candidacy for Chairman of Western Caucus, sharing his vision for the future of the caucus in a letter sent to members. In his announcement, he emphasized his dedication to amplifying the voices of Western and rural priorities, standing firm against burdensome federal overreach, and championing policies that support rural livelihoods.

"The Congressional Western Caucus has always been a strong voice for rural America, fighting for real reforms to the challenges we face in the West and beyond," said Rep. LaMalfa. "Today, I'm excited to announce my candidacy for Chairman as we head into the 119th Congress. I believe we have an opportunity to expand our influence, drive real results, and make sure every Member has a seat at the table. I'm ready to lead by working alongside our members to build on the work we've done to make our Caucus an even greater force for rural America."

Background:

The Western Caucus serves as a common voice for members of Congress representing western, rural and resource-based communities and fighting for the priorities of the American people in the process.

The Western Caucus has an established track record of success on Capitol Hill with more than 30 years serving members and staff. The Caucus has never been stronger in its quarter-century history and is a dominant force, currently comprised of nearly 110 bipartisan members from over 35 different states and territories.

Initially, the Caucus was born in the West, out of concerns of undue federal interference with rural, agricultural, timber, water, energy and hunting values that had been a part of American society for centuries. The Caucus was founded to fight this federal overreach, promote rural values and preserve our uniquely American way of life. Over time, the Caucus has grown beyond the geographic West, allying with Members of Congress throughout the country that share our values, issues and vision of a stronger America.

The Caucus focuses on hands on member education and experiences of rural, resource and western life has been a hallmark of the Caucus for the last three decades. Employing six professional staff, the Caucus brings policy, press, educational opportunities and advocacy for its entire bipartisan membership through the official Eligible Congressional Member Organization (ECMO) status.

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba Counties.
