Oka Con'24 Unites Water Leaders, Innovators, and Communities

ADA, Okla.- The Oka' Institute wrapped up its highly successful Oka Con'24, held in Ada, Okla., Sept. 10-12, 2024. The three-day conference brought together hundreds of water professionals, policymakers, scientists, and community leaders to discuss innovative solutions and collaborative efforts to protect and manage water resources for future generations. This year's theme, "Uniting in Water," highlighted the importance of partnership in addressing critical water challenges.

The conference featured an array of speakers from across the country, including keynote speaker Gov. Bill Anoatubby of the Chickasaw Nation, who underscored the vital role that water plays in sustaining the environment and local economies. Anoatubby emphasized, "As stewards of the land and water, it is our responsibility to work together to find solutions that ensure the availability of this precious resource for future generations."

Duane Smith, Executive Director of the Oka' Institute, expressed his gratitude for the support and engagement from attendees, "Oka Con'24 was a fantastic opportunity to bring together leaders in water management and innovation. Conference highlights included:

  • Engaging Panels and Workshops:Experts led discussions on topics ranging from climate adaptation and water infrastructure resilience to the blue economy and water innovation.
  • Byrds Mill Springs Field Trip:Attendees had the chance to tour Byrds Mill Springs, one of Oklahoma's most pristine water sources, and learn about local efforts to protect the region's water supply.
  • Networking and Collaboration:Oka Con'24 provided a platform for stakeholders across various sectors to share ideas and form partnerships aimed at addressing current and future water challenges.
  • Immersive Dinner Experience:The first day concluded with an immersive dinner that celebrated Oklahoma's water heritage and the innovations driving the state's blue economy.

Attendees walked away inspired by the actionable insights shared at the conference and eager to implement these practices in their communities. The Oka' Institute is already looking ahead to future projects and collaborations sparked by the success of Oka Con '24.
