Michigan Ross deepens roots in Los Angeles

The University of Michigan Board of Regents approved a long-term lease to establish a new location for the Ross School of Business in downtown Los Angeles.

Plans are for the Michigan Ross Los Angeles campus to be located at The Grand LA, in the Grand Ave Arts Corridor, known as the city's epicenter of culture with iconic art, theater and entertainment venues. The facility is also close to LA's business district.

Michigan Ross has had a Los Angeles presence since establishing a second cohort for its Executive MBA Program in 2012. In addition to its top-ranked EMBA Program, this second campus will continue to serve as a hub of educational programming for executives, drawing from many academic areas. The campus will also be used for hosting various events and conferences for Ross students, alums and corporate partners, as well as the broader U-M community.

"We are thrilled to raise a maize and blue flag in downtown LA through this amazing facility on the West Coast that will embody the excellence, innovation, vibrant setting and enthusiastic 'Go Blue' pride associated with Michigan Ross and the University of Michigan," said Sharon Matusik, the Edward J. Frey Dean of Business.

Los Angeles County is one of the most dynamic economies in the world, with over a dozen major industries, including a fast-growing and immense high-tech industry and a world-leading creative economy. It's also a major global business hub with six commercial airports. Matusik considers LA an ideal place to expand Michigan Ross through a location that will not only better serve the West Coast of the United States but will also serve as a gateway to Southeast Asia, Latin America and points beyond.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to further expand the impact of the Ross School in a growing and thriving market known for innovation and as a place where new ideas, trends, and sectors emerge," Matusik said. "This move will open doors to new industries, perspectives, and opportunities for our students, faculty, and executive learners all over the world."

Along with top-ranked undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs, Michigan Ross is consistently ranked among the most elite business schools for executive education. Ross also offers several dual degree programs with other U-M colleges and schools. Ross has a vast alumni network of more than 58,000 alums across 107 countries.

Construction on the new Michigan Ross Los Angeles campus is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Ross will occupy a 20,000-square-foot space on the third level of the development and will include state-of-the-art classrooms, conference rooms and innovative workspaces, as well as indoor and outdoor event spaces. The architects will be Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and LARGE architecture. The Grand LA is LEED-certified, the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
