Incarcerated Person Who Walked Away from Los Angeles Reentry Program Apprehended

LOS ANGELES - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today announced the apprehension of a person who walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) facility in Los Angels County on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.

Justin Gutierrez was apprehended without incident at the city of South Gate at approximately 1:43 P.m. on Oct. 12, 2024. Gutierrez's case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for possible escape charges.

On April 15, 2020, Gutierrez was sentenced to three years for second-degree robbery. Gutierrez was released to parole supervision on June 13, 2005, after serving his full sentence as required by law. Gutierrez was received from Los Angels County on July 20, 2023, to serve six years for robbery, as a second striker, to be served concurrently to his first offense. He has been housed at MCRP Los Angeles County since Aug. 22, 2024.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or in-state contract bed or Community Rehabilitative Program Placement have been apprehended.
