Ramped Up Mosquito Spraying Schedule Being Implemented

Corpus Christi, TX - Recent rain events in the Coastal Bend continue to cause an influx of mosquitoes around the City as stagnant water and high grass produce breeding grounds for mosquitoes. As such, Vector Control will continue its ramped-up efforts to reduce the mosquito population and will add seven consecutive days of continuous spraying, covering the entire City from Calallen to the Island. These efforts will total 21 consecutive days of spraying.

Vector Control typically sprays at night when traffic conditions are minimal. Vector Control does not spray during inclement weather, elevated wind speeds, or in proximity to individuals who are outdoors.

Below is the schedule from Saturday, September 21, to Friday, September 27.

Vector Control program reminds the public to keep themselves safe and help by caring for their property by ensuring grass and shrubs are properly trimmed. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, so help reduce mosquito breeding grounds by draining any standing water, including water that collects in empty cans, tires, buckets, clogged rain gutters, and saucers under potted plants.

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District recommends following the 5 Ds of Defense:

DEET - If you will be outside - use insect repellent containing DEET

DRESS - Dress in long sleeves and pants when you're outside.

DAWN, DAYTIME, and DUSK-Mosquitoes are most active at dawn, daytime, and dusk. Avoid being outside during these times of the day.

DRAIN - Curb mosquito breeding areas by draining standing water.

DOCTOR - Consult your physician if you feel sick after being bitten.
