The European Union Delegation in Kenya would like to respond briefly to concerns raised over two EU funded projects.

These two projects are part of EU support to devolution in Kenya, following the adoption of the 2010 Constitution. We have since worked with counties to support local economic development.

In the case of the two projects in Taita Taveta and Kwale, these have not delivered.

Kwale market was completed and inaugurated, but due to a legal dispute between the county and the contractor, it was never put into operation.

In the case of the Banana processing plant in Taita Taveta, the EU had to suspend funding due to lack of counterpart contribution.

The European Union stands for transparency, accountability and freedom of expression and therefore welcomes public vigilance.

The EU will investigate any allegations of mis-use of funds based on credible information.
