Everytown Supporters, Alongside Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers, Made More Than 12 Million Voter Contacts To Support Gun Sense Candidates Nationwide
DOVER, Del. - Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as Delaware voters elected New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer as Governor.
"Matt Meyer is a gun sense champion with a track record of taking decisive action to keep Delaware children, families and law enforcement safe from gun violence," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Governor-elect Meyer can count on Everytown's full support as he works with the legislature to pass common-sense laws that keep guns out of dangerous hands."
"We've seen how governors can make or break our progress in the states. With Matt Meyer's win, our movement in Delaware has a governor we can count on," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "We are grateful to have a governor who will continue to prioritize the safety of Delaware communities, stand up against the gun lobby, and fight for the common sense solutions we know will save lives"
"Today is a win for gun safety up and down the ticket in Delaware. I know the impact that gun violence has on my state and electing leaders committed to life-saving action is critical," said Monisha Henley, senior vice president of government affairs at Everytown for Gun Safety. "I look forward to working with Governor-elect Meyer to build on the life-saving progress of former Governor - and now Mayor-elect of Wilmington - John Carney."
"Today marks a win for gun safety across Delaware," said Kristen Bruce, a volunteer with the Delaware chapter of Moms Demand Action. "Matt Meyer has demonstrated a strong commitment to passing meaningful gun safety legislation, and his leadership will be instrumental in creating a future where our children can live free from fear of gun violence. We look forward to creating a safer Delaware for all."
Earlier this year, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund announced a $45 million major electoral program, which included launching a new grassroots voter contact program to help elect gun sense candidates and defeat gun extremists up and down the ballot in key swing districts and states.
