William Blair hosted a panel discussion with corporate philanthropy leaders, during which they shared the successful strategies behind their companies' philanthropic efforts and how nonprofits can best engage with corporations.

"Unlocking Corporate Philanthropy" underscored the value of relationships and networking within the philanthropic sector. Panelists discussed the significance of community impact, which can be achieved by reinvesting back into communities in which employees live and work. Additionally, event speakers emphasized the importance of supporting the next generation of leaders by facilitating youth mentoring programs, investing in emerging entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders, and assisting with board placements.

William Blair Director of Community Engagement Nancy Bonges moderated the event. She highlighted how corporate philanthropy strategy is unique to each company but often utilizes grant-making, sponsorships, and matching gifts.

Bonges further explained that while cultivating potential partnerships between corporate organizations and nonprofits may take time, doing the work to curate the right connection is worth it.

"In my 15 years of grant-making, it's apparent that so many organizations are doing important work," Bonges said. "You each have something differentiating, but what is it? Is it your approach? Your impact? There's someone out there who cares about the influence you're making and who can help champion your cause."

During the session, the panel shared insights on how to best foster successful collaborations with organizations. Empowering employees to engage philanthropically, focusing on a specific impact, and prioritizing your nonprofit's short- and long-term goals were also noted.
