Senate Passes Padilla, Butler Resolution Congratulating World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler (both D-Calif.) announced that the Senate unanimously passed their resolution congratulating the Los Angeles Dodgers on their World Series victory over the New York Yankees. The resolution applauds the team's dominant championship run and recognizes the achievements and contributions of the entire Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.-34) introduced a similar resolution in the House of Representatives.

"Once again, Los Angeles is on top of the baseball world," said Senator Padilla. "The Dodgers overcame injuries and adversity to dominate the regular season and cruise through the playoffs to their second World Series title in five years. Thanks to Shohei, Freddie, Mookie, Teo and the rest of Dave Roberts' championship core, the Dodgers put together a remarkable season that honors Fernando Valenzuela's inspiring legacy and that Los Angeles will celebrate for years to come."

The Dodgers' victory in Game 5 of the World Series marked the eighth World Series championship for the Dodgers franchise and their seventh title since moving from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958. The Dodgers' 98 regular season wins gave them the best record in baseball and led to their 11th National League West Division title in the last 12 seasons.

The resolution also acknowledges the recent passing of Fernando Valenzuela, who spurred a unique connection between the team and the Latino community of Los Angeles. Valenzuela passed away just days before the start of the World Series.
