Pescara Humanitarian Chair’s Statement

In the framework of the G7 Development Ministers'Meeting in Pescara, the Italian G7 presidency invited representatives from Lebanon, Palestine and Israel to attend a Humanitarian Conference to assess the urgent humanitarian needs in the region and accelerate coordination to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.

The event allowed participants to have an in-depth exchange of views with each of the guests from the region - including organizations operating on the ground - to jointly the humanitarian repercussions of the crises in Lebanon and Gaza and to identify priority areas of intervention.

The Humanitarian Conference laid the groundwork for the resumption of a meaningful dialogue among countries in the region. The G7 Members reiterated their call for a diplomatic solution in Lebanon, in accordance with full implementation of UNSC Resolution 1701, and an end to the war in Gaza that brings the hostages home and ends the suffering of Palestinians and Israelis. Further discussions with regional partners are planned, namely the International Conference in Support of Lebanon's People and Sovereignty to be hosted by France on 24 October, the Rome Med Dialogues and the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting at Fiuggi with Arab partners at the end of November.
