New Outdoor Sirens Installed

The city has installed two new outdoor warning sirens on the far west and northwest side of Elgin to ensure coverage in newly developed and planned development areas. One siren is located at 3647 Emerald Road and the other on Highland Ave., just east of Damisch Rd. This brings the total to 25 outdoor warning sirens, and the two new sirens are solar-powered.

The sirens will automatically sound when the National Weather Service issues a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning of "considerable" or "destructive" nature, as defined by the NWS. They are meant to alert individuals who are outside to seek shelter. If you are indoors, you should receive alerts on your mobile phone or weather alert radio.
