CABEI approves US$5.9 million in technical cooperation for studies on modernization and increase of national roads in Costa Rica

San José, November 26, 2024.- For the development of technical and economic pre-investment studies for the construction and rehabilitation of several strategic routes in Costa Rica, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved technical cooperation in the amount of US$5.9 million to improve the country's road infrastructure, supporting economic growth, connectivity, and the well-being of the communities.

The approved studies include: the construction of a new radial in Heredia, which will relieve congestion in one of the busiest metropolitan areas, the increase of the Pozón-Jacó route, the rehabilitation of the Birmania-Santa Cecilia route in Monteverde; in addition to the increase and reconstruction of the Liberia-Comunidad highway (near the Daniel Oduber Airport), from two lanes to four, including bus bays, bicycle lanes, among other key interventions to strengthen tourism and commerce in the Guanacaste region.

Also included are other formulation projects for the construction of the intersection to National Route N° 175, Radial Desamparados in San José, and the increase of sections in the Limón-Sixaola Route and Route 32, as well as the economic-financial and technical accompaniment in the negotiation process for the increase of the San José - Caldera Road Concession Project (Route 27).

"With the approval of this cooperation, CABEI reaffirms its commitment to the development of modern road infrastructure in Costa Rica, promoting strategic projects that positively impact the lives of thousands of people, strengthening trade, tourism and the country's competitiveness," said CABEI Director for Costa Rica Erwen Masís.

This technical support will also enable the development of studies for the increase of the Barranca-Caldera highway to four lanes, a project of great importance for the transportation of goods to the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, as well as the increase of the Liberia-Peñas Blancas, Palmar Norte-Paso Canoas and Río Frío-Tablillas routes, reinforcing the strategic corridors for regional integration.
