Prairie, West walkability improvements phase 2 begins Nov. 25
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A section of S. West Avenue will be closed to through-traffic starting Monday, Nov. 25, so crews can begin the second phase of sidewalk and walkability improvements to West and W. Prairie Street.
The improvements began in July and are taking place in three phases, each lasting four months. However, inclement weather or unforeseen conditions could delay or extend the estimated work times.
Improvements include installing new crosswalks, flashing beacons at the Razorback Greenway crossing and landscaping. Also, sidewalks will be widened and on-street parking will be created.
The section of West to be closed runs from Prairie to W. South Street, near one the entrances to the Lower Ramble's Fay Jones Woods. During this closure, southbound traffic on West will be detoured to S. School Avenue, and traffic from Prairie will be detoured to S. Gregg Avenue.
The first phase of this project required a closure of Prairie from West to Gregg. The third phase will require a closure of Prairie from West to School.
The Downtown Sidewalk/Walkability Improvements are funded by the Street Improvement Bond approved by Fayetteville residents in 2019. To learn more about this project, go to: https://fayetteville-ar.gov/3601/Downtown-SidewalkWalkability-Improvement.
