Dr. Arndt Guentsch, chair of the Department of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences and professor of periodontics, and Dr. Ufuk Tatli, associate professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, were inducted as fellows of the International College of Dentists on Sept. 7 in Nashville, Tenn.

One of the oldest and most prestigious honorary dental societies in the world, fellowship to the ICD is by invitation only and invitation only and recognizes dentists for "outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind."

"This is an outstanding and well-deserved honor for Drs. Guentsch and Tatli," said Dr. Elsbeth Kalenderian, dean of the School of Dentistry. "The International College of Dentists is one of the oldest and most prestigious honorary dental societies in the world. Fewer than 3% of dentists in the United States have been accepted for fellowship in this society, and we are proud to feature this caliber of professionals and instructors at the Marquette School of Dentistry."

Guentsch joined Marquette's dental school in 2015 from University Hospital in Jena, Germany. He was named chair of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences in June 2017. Guentsch serves as a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and has authored approximately 100 publications, including more than 40 in peer-reviewed journals. His article, "An in vitro analysis of the accuracy of static and robot-assisted implant surgery," was published in the May issue of Clinical Oral Implants Research, the highest-ranked implantology journal.

Tatli came to the School of Dentistry in July 2023 from his native Turkey, where he was most recently a professor at Cukurova University. His areas of practice and research include oral surgery, dental implants, bone grafting, jaw cyst and tumors and temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). Tatli was previously named a fellow for the Association of the Study of Internal Fixation and was recently selected to serve as Guest Editor for a special issue of the prestigious Materials journal in 2025.
