NCCU Recognized as a CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ Employer

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has received the prestigious CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ designation, recognizing its commitment to supporting and promoting employee health, cancer prevention, early detection and high-quality care.

NCCU earned this certification through an application process facilitated by Danielle Blackwell, associate vice chancellor of the university's Division of Institutional Advancement. The university met the rigorous standards set by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, an organization founded by former President George H.W. Bush. The Gold Standard recognizes employers who prioritize the health and well-being of their workforce, making NCCU part of a select group of institutions committed to cancer-related health initiatives within the workplace.

In a congratulatory letter, Dr. David M. Reese, chairman of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, praised NCCU Chancellor Karrie Dixon and her team for their dedication to creating a healthy work environment.

"At North Carolina Central University, we strive to support our employees in every way possible," said Dixon. "This Gold Standard certification reflects our ongoing efforts to prioritize their health and well-being, and we look forward to building on these initiatives for the future."

Mohammad Ahmed, Ph.D., dean of the College of Health and Sciences at NCCU, highlighted the university's dedication to cancer research and health equity for underserved populations.

"Our researchers are working to reduce cancer's impact through public health education, early diagnosis, and treatment. This Gold Standard accreditation strengthens our ability to raise awareness and make a difference in cancer prevention," he said.

Deepak Kumar, Ph.D., associate provost and dean of research and sponsored programs, and pharmaceutical sciences professor, underscored the importance of this achievement in advancing the university's mission.

"Health equity is central to what we do at NCCU. We are honored and grateful for this recognition and will continue our efforts to address health inequities as we prepare the next generation of health professionals," he said.

Tammy Jones, NCCU human resources training consultant, also expressed her enthusiasm regarding the accreditation.

"I am honored to have served as an on-campus partner in the collaborative efforts to submit the Gold Standard application and am excited to continue to work toward a healthier future for our students, faculty and staff," said Jones.

Through the designation, the CEO Roundtable on Cancer will provide NCCU with additional resources to help enhance its health-focused programs, ensuring continued progress in cancer prevention, early detection and care.
