Bilateral talks

This is the first visit abroad by a Serbian parliamentary delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee since the establishment of the Serbian National Assembly.

State Secretary Melita Gabrič and the head of the Serbian delegation, Committee Chair Marina Raguš, agreed that relations between Slovenia and Serbia are fruitful and dynamic, which is also supported by the parliamentary dimension of cooperation. They welcomed the recent visit of Minister Đurić to Slovenia, which paved the way for enhanced cooperation at the political level.

"Serbia is an important economic partner and a regional player in our immediate neighbourhood," State Secretary Gabrič underlined. On the outstanding issues of succession to the former Yugoslavia, she recalled that twenty years after the entry into force of the Agreement on Succession Issues, the time has come to bring this issue to a successful conclusion.

An important part of the discussion focused on Serbia's European perspective and the recently announced enlargement package. The State Secretary reiterated Slovenia's support for Serbia's progress towards the EU and stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of reforms as a condition for EU membership.

They also discussed the process of normalisation of relations with Kosovo, which is crucial for the stability of the Western Balkans. They exchanged views on the current situation in the international community.
