Global launch of the Trade and Development Report 2024: Rethinking development in the age of discontent

[Embargoed until 29 October at 12:30 GMT / 14:30 CEST]

The Trade and Development Report 2024 calls for a "rethink" of development strategies amid global economic slowdown and rising social discontent. This new analysis shows that the world economy is at a turning point. Growth is slow and even slower in developing countries. Combined with accelerating technological change, trade fragmentation, rising debt burdens and inflation, social discontent is emerging.

The report explores the challenges facing the Global South but also the unique opportunities that lie ahead. To seize them, a new development path is essential, with a focus on economic diversification, resilience and inclusive growth.

Speakers:

  • Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary General, UN Trade and Development
  • Anastasia Nesvetailova, Head, Macroeconomic and Development Policies Branch, Division on Globalization and Development Strategies, UN Trade and Development
