No Fee to Adopt Animals This Weekend at Pet Adoption Center

Shelter is near capacity in dog kennels, looking for good homes.

St. Charles County's Pet Adoption Center (PAC) is hoping a weekend event offering free adoptions will relieve pressure on the shelter, where the dog kennels have been full for weeks.

The PAC is waiving fees for adopting cats and dogs Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, thanks to all costs being covered by national pet care companies Mars Petcare and Royal Canin. The shelter currently has more than 70 dogs in its kennels and in temporary foster homes.

"Right now, our dog kennels are full, so this promotion and partnership could not be timelier," says Sara Evers, Acting Director of the Department of Public Health, which operates the PAC. "Without financial barriers to adoption, more families can consider bringing a pet into their loving home, which in turn helps us help us alleviate shelter overcrowding."

For anyone who's been thinking of getting a new pet, this promotion is the perfect time to start your pet parenthood journey without a lot of additional fees or expenses.

That's because in addition to waived fees, adopters will go home with a welcome kit courtesy of Mars pet care brands, including a variety of food and treats to try, veterinary and accessory coupons, and toys to help build a strong bond.

Evers is available for media interviews about this special adoption event. To schedule interviews, please contact Public Health PIO Miranda Fleschert at 636-949-7900 ext. 7408, or [email protected].

Mars and its family of pet care brands are covering adoption costs as part of the 16th annual Mars Pet Adoption Weekend. The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center is one of 18 participating animal shelters and organizations around the country. In total, the event will cover more than $100,000 in pet adoption fees.

Media inquiries for Mars should be sent to Madeleine Cramer at [email protected] and Madison Miller at [email protected].

The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center is located at 4850 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters. It's open Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, go to sccmo.org/Pets or call 636-949-7387.
