The dishes inspired by our food and wine culture and eaten in orbit by ESA astronauts are back in selected Italian Embassies abroad.
The second edition of Space Food Experience, a journey through science and gastronomy to discover the recipes created for space missions, is at the kick-off.
After a successful first edition held in Seoul, Tokyo, London, Paris, Brussels and Zurich, the format promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is back on the occasion of National Space Day 2024.
The series of events is part of the celebrations for Italy's entry as a main player in the era of space exploration and kicks off in conjunction with the initiatives linked to the Week of Italian Cuisine in the world.
Space Food Experience is a format developed in collaboration with Collectibus Società Benefit, a consultancy firm specialized in sustainability, and EAT Freedom, a startup with an Italian heart that is expert in the production of ready-to-eat meals to be used in orbit.
Bringing back to Earth what they have learned from astronauts, the EAT Freedom team will take the guests of the Embassies on a journey through the history and techniques of food preparation and preservation in space. Led by the founder, Sara Rocci Denis, and the chef, Stefano Polato, the events will culminate in the culinary experience of three of the recipes inspired by our food and wine culture and consumed in orbit by astronauts during the European Space Agency's Minerva mission in 2022.
Six events: following the inaugural event organized by the Italian Embassy in Madrid as part of the local Science and Innovation Week (November 14), Space Food Experience will stop at the Embassy in Belgrade (November 19) before moving to South America, for the events organized by the Embassy in Brasilia in collaboration with the Consulate in São Paulo on the occasion of the "2024 International Workshop on Space Resources" (November 22) and by the Embassy in Buenos Aires (November 26). The final events will be held at the Embassies in Berlin (December 11) and New Delhi (December 16).
The guests will experience an immersive journey from Earth to Space and back, which will lead them to discover and taste the recipes created by choosing seasonal products, processed gently to preserve their value, taste and consistency and that are developed using the principles of nutrigenomics to best support the body and mind in extreme environments, such as those of a space mission.
