The Bureau of Energy Resources Announces New Support to Advance Energy Security, Transition, and Decarbonization

At COP29, the Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR) announced new and expanded programs to support partners around the world in deploying clean energy technologies, increasing reliable and affordable electricity supply, attracting private sector investment in energy infrastructure, decarbonizing the oil and gas sector, and empowering the next generation of women leaders in the energy sector. These programs include:

Power Sector Program

• $4 million to advance national and regional Balkan energy security and energy sector decarbonization through the integration of diverse clean energy sources, advanced power system technologies, and clean hydrogen production.
• $2.8 million under the U.S.-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030) to support power system resiliency, strengthen regulatory and technical capacity, and facilitate clean energy deployment across the Caribbean.
• $2 million in support of the Clean Energy Demand Initiative (CEDI) for technical assistance to Nigeria and Thailand for clean energy policy development, including the establishment of the Clean Energy Alliance of Nigeria (CLEAN). • $1.825 million in technical support to encourage private investment in clean energy and energy infrastructure in Argentina to support mining sector decarbonization and to continue working with Chilean and Andean governments to support their efforts to establish a regional power market and expand cross-border power trade.

Energy and Mineral Governance Program

• $5 million to support emissions reductions in the oil and gas sector through methane abatement and decarbonization technologies. Countries of focus include Argentina, Brazil, India, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Turkmenistan, and regionally in Southeast Asia.

Women In Energy Strategy

• $1.25 million in support of the Advancing Women in Clean Energy and Minerals Program (AWCEM), to increase women's leadership in the clean energy and critical mineral mining sectors in Latin America and empower women to become leaders and agents for change to support decarbonization and the clean energy transition.
