Maximize campus resources for success at Davenport University

Staying engaged at Davenport University is essential for students to succeed. Resources such as the Center for Learning and Engagement, registered student organizations, athletics and on-campus employment opportunities help students engage socially, academically and professionally.

Here are a few tips for students to make the most of their time at Davenport:

Stay involved

Activities on campus

Davenport provides a variety of fun extracurricular activities to enhance the college experience. One example is "30 Thursdays," which are fun on and off-campus activities every Thursday, all semester long. Activities have included a zombie run, snowboarding, pie-eating contest, fun-themed events, and more. Check out the Campus Life Events Calendar for a complete list of events you won't want to miss.

Center for Learning and Engagement

The Center for Learning and Engagement (CLE) on the W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus is a great student resource. Many students spend time in the CLE working on group projects, finishing homework assignments, or spending time with friends between classes. The CLE is also used for campus events, like career fairs and educational presentations. It even hosts evening events like NFL watch parties and stress-buster activities during exam week.

Student organizations

One of the ways Davenport engages students outside of the classroom is by offering more than 40 student organizations.Students can choose from a long list of social, recreational, academic, professional and service organizations to become involved with.

These organizations range from the Business Professionals of America to Barbell Babes, a community of women who focus on their physical health in a supportive environment.

Athletics

On-campus employment opportunities

Davenport provides students with as much real-world experience as possible so they are confident when they enter the workforce. One of the great ways students can obtain real-world experience is to work at Davenport as a student employee. Many departments at Davenport hire student employees to work alongside their teams, like Dining Services, Student Life, Marketing and Communications, Athletics, Housing and more. Academic tips to help students and alumni succeed

Career Services

When students enroll at Davenport, they are assigned a 'Career Coach' to help them prepare for internships and assist with the job search as graduation nears. Davenport's career coaches help students kick-start their careers and help alumni succeed after leaving Davenport. Click here to learn more.

Handshake

Handshake is a platform that helps students find internship and employment opportunities. Most students will be prompted by a professor to set up their Handshake profile as a class assignment. Students should update their Handshake profile often to ensure that they are providing potential employers with the best image of themselves.

Free torturing services

Students have 24/7 access to free online tutoring through Tutor.com. Students can choose immediate drop-in sessions or schedule a session. Click here to learn more about tutoring services.

Staying well on campus

When students are not feeling well physically or emotionally, Davenport's Wellness Center has them covered. The Wellness Center is located on the W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus and is available free of charge to all students.
