Seeds Available at Charlotte County Libraries

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Nov. 8, 2024) - Beginning Nov. 8, 2024, Charlotte County library card holders will have access to Charlotte County Libraries' first ever seed library. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or a beginner, the seed library offers a fantastic opportunity to learn more about sustainablegardening and native plants.

"Port Charlotte Public Library is focused on improving food insecurityin our area, and therefore the seed library at our branch will be mostly food seeds," said Hana Brown, librarian supervisor at the Port Charlotte Public Library. "Each Library will try to offer some resources that will help people on their seed journey."

Library patrons will be able to choose from a wide variety of seeds that grow well in our local climate. Options range from vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers to flowering plants like lavender and coneflowers.

Each library branch will have Master Gardeners visit once a week to take questions from the public.

South County Regional Park Recreation Center, Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center, and Centennial Park Recreation Center have community gardens with available garden plots. Visit CharlotteCountyFL.gov/recreation to learn more.

Charlotte County Libraries are accepting donations of unopened, unexpiredseeds in their original packaging.
