Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Study on EU's Mandate for Installation of Intelligent Speed Assistance Technology in New Vehicles

15 Oct 2024In Parliament
Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry is studying the new European Union mandate for the installation of Intelligent Speed Assistance technology in all new vehicles this year to reduce road accidents and associated injuries and fatalities.

Reply by Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat:

1. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is aware that the European Union (EU) has required all newly registered vehicles to be equipped with an Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) system from July 2024. There are a variety of ISA systems, and the EU authorities are studying their effectiveness and reliability as more of such systems are installed in new vehicles in the EU. LTA will continue to monitor this and other developments internationally on emerging vehicle technologies, as part of the effort to improve road safety.
