24th Street Closure at Railroad Delayed

AMES, Iowa - The 24th Street closure scheduled for Monday, Sept. 23 has been delayed until further notice. Once a new date is determined, all lanes of 24th Street will close at the 24th Street railroad crossing, weather permitting, to remove and replace approaches to the railroad tracks.

The 24th Street closure will be coordinated with the Union Pacific Railroad and is anticipated to last two weeks. Union Pacific will extend the railroad crossing on the north side of 24th Street to connect the sidewalk across the tracks.

Motorists will be detoured north to Bloomington Road and Grand Avenue. West of the railroad, 24th Street will remain open and accessible from Stange Road. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as delays are expected.

The City of Ames has contracted with Con-Struct for the reconstruction of Stange Road and 24th Street. Stange Road was completed in 2023 while 24th Street has been reconstructed in three main stages. This is the final stage of this project.
