Lead Service Line Inventory Now Online

On December 16, 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) introduced the Revised Lead and Copper Rule to enhance regulations on lead in drinking water. A key requirement is for utilities to develop an inventory of both utility-owned and customer-owned service lines and make it public by October 16, 2024. Using EPA guidance, the City of Abilene has created an inventory of over 40,000 service lines. This inventory is essential for the long-term goal of eliminating lead service lines throughout the city.

Citizens can now check on the status of their lines at abilenetx.gov/leadcopperprogram, along with Abilene's plan of action, FAQs, and other information.

Since the implementation of the EPA's Lead and Copper Rule, Abilene has consistently remained below the lead action limit. The City of Abilene Water Utilities is dedicated to ensuring the safety and quality of Abilene's Water.
