The Infectious Diseases Society of America is pleased to announce Tina Tan, MD, FIDSA, FPIDS, FAAP, as the Society's new president beginning Oct. 20. In addition, a new vice president and two new directors were elected to serve with Dr. Tan. The Board of Directors will work to advance the Society's overall strategic priorities, including advocating for policy and regulatory solutions to address the antimicrobial resistance crisis, championing fair compensation policies to attract the next generation of infectious diseases experts into the workforce and improving the nation's preparedness.

"Experts in infectious diseases shape every person's health through advancement of patient care and research," Dr. Tan said. "I'm honored to work alongside leaders in infectious diseases to promote excellence in public health, mentor the next generation of professionals and advocate for the clinicians practicing our highly consequential specialty."

Dr. Tan is a pediatric infectious diseases physician and a thought leader on antimicrobial resistance and vaccines. She has served as a member of IDSA's Antibiotic Use and Clinical Trials Committee and the IDWeek Program Committee, addressing issues affecting the infectious diseases workforce. She was the chair of the Inclusion, Diversity, Access and Equity Committee that led IDSA to implement principles promoting equity throughout the organization and also served as chair of the Governance Task Force. Dr. Tan is passionate about mentoring trainees and broadening access to care to reduce disparities for women, children and infants.

Dr. Tan is a professor of pediatrics at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and is the medical director of the International Patient and Destination Services Program, medical director of the International Adoptee Clinic, medical co-director of the Travel Medicine Clinic at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and president of the Lurie Children's Medical Dental staff.

New IDSA Board Members
Dr. Tan is pleased to be working with newly elected IDSA Board members, including:

• Wendy S. Armstrong, MD, FIDSA, was elected to serve as vice president of the Board. She is interim ID division chief at the Emory University School of Medicine and is the executive medical director at the Ponce De Leon Center at Grady Health System. Her experience providing general ID, transplant ID and outpatient HIV care has contributed to her understanding of models of care and the unique challenges faced by ID physicians. As a former fellowship program director for 17 years, she is passionate about bolstering the ID/HIV workforce. Dr. Armstrong has long contributed to IDSA, serving as chair of HIVMA and as the HIVMA representative to the IDSA Board of Directors in addition to serving on various committees, including the IDWeek Program Committee, the Task Force on ID Fellowship Recruitment and the ID/EIS Pilot Program Executive Committee.
  
  
• David M. Aronoff, MD, FIDSA, was elected to serve as a director on the Board. He is the John B. Hickam professor of medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine as well as an adjunct professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. In addition to serving on IDSA's Governance Task Force from 2022 to 2023, he was a member of key committees such as the Leadership Institute Subcommittee and the IDSA Foundation Mentorship Committee. Dr. Aronoff has worked to embrace value-driven leadership and applied his knowledge to support historically marginalized communities. He has served as president of national and international biomedical societies, including the American Society for Reproductive Immunology.
  
  
• Upinder Singh, MD, FIDSA, was elected to serve as a director on the Board. She is chair and department executive officer of the department of internal medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. She has dedicated her 24 years of academic experience in internal medicine and 13 years as division chief to fostering and leading a diverse, efficient faculty. Dr. Singh's outstanding mentorship was recognized when she was honored with IDSA's Walter E. Stamm Mentor Award in 2023. Her service to IDSA includes serving as an editor of The Journal of Infectious Diseases, chair of the Research Committee and as a member of IDSA's Journals Committee and Governance Task Force.

The IDSA membership elected Maximo O. Brito, MD, MPH, FIDSA, University of Illinois at Chicago, as treasurer and Robin Dretler, MD, FIDSA, Georgia Metro Infectious Disease Consultants, Decatur, Georgia, as a director to serve full terms in their current roles. Both were initially appointed by the Board for partial terms.

In addition to Drs. Tan, Armstrong and Brito, the IDSA Executive Committee includes President-Elect Ronald G. Nahass, MD, FIDSA, ID Care, Hillsborough, New Jersey; Secretary Robin Trotman, DO, FIDSA, CoxHealth, Springfield, Missouri; and Immediate Past President Steven K.
