League of Women Voters Statement on Shooting at Harris Campaign Office in Arizona

WASHINGTON, DC - The League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of Arizona issued the following statement on the shooting at presidential candidate Harris's campaign office in Arizona:

"News of the shots fired at Vice President Harris's campaign office in Arizona on Tuesday night is deeply concerning. The League of Women Voters unequivocally condemns any form of political violence aimed at a candidate.

"Every candidate and their staff should be able to conduct their campaign work without threats to their safety. Violent acts toward presidential candidates in recent weeks serve as a sobering reminder that the issue of gun violence continues to threaten individuals and communities across our nation daily. We condemn all forms of violence and work to ensure voters can cast their ballot peacefully."

"We must protect our elections against all forms of discrimination, intimidation, or criminal activity. The League calls on the Biden administration to leverage the appropriate agency and officials to protect any federal candidates for office, including all presidential candidates, to ensure a secure and free election season."
