The Princeton Review has recognized Southwestern University as the only institution in the state of Texas to be named one of the nation’s Top 50 Green Colleges in their 2025 Guide to Green Colleges.
In their 2025 edition, the educational services and resources organization ranked Southwestern #50, marking the third consecutive year that SU has appeared on the list and the fifth straight year that the University has been recognized by The Princeton Review for environmental responsibility and sustainability.
“We are delighted to recommend Southwestern University to students who want their ‘best-fit’ college to also be a ‘green’ one,” The Princeton Review Editor-in-Chief Rob Franek said. “Southwestern, which offers excellent academics, also demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability in its campus programs, policies, and practices.”
In their 2025 Guide to Green Colleges, The Princeton Review surveyed nearly 600 colleges and universities about their sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs. The guide ranks the top 50 while profiling 511 total colleges that foster a culture of environmental responsibility and demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. Beyond the Top 50 list, the colleges profiled in the guide are not ranked from 51 to 511.
Each college and university profiled receives a “Green Rating,” which The Princeton Review tallies on a scale of 60 to 99. Southwestern received a Green Rating of 96. All profiles also provide notes on each institution’s uses of renewable energy, recycling and conservation programs, and availability of environmental studies in academic offerings. Southwestern’s profile can be viewed here.
The Princeton Review has published its Guide to Green Colleges annually since 2010. Information on how the company selected the schools for the guide and tallied the Top 50 Green Colleges ranking list is available here. The Princeton Review is also known for its other resources for college applicants including its dozens of other categories of college rankings, and its annual book, The Best 390 Colleges.
The organization recently named Southwestern as one of their “Best Colleges” for 2025 while ranking SU #1 in Texas and #2 in the nation in their “Best Career Services” category.
