New York, NY - Today, New York City Public Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos today unveiled her three commitments, solidifying her promise to empower and engage families across New York City. These commitments expand upon the agency's current priorities and provide a special focus on areas that are considered pre-requisites to learning.
Chancellor Aviles-Ramos's commitments are:
Building upon this unveiling, next week will be the launch of the Five Borough Listening Tour, a series of community events designed to give families and community members the chance to directly engage with New York City Public Schools leadership. The tour will provide an open forum to share feedback, insights, and ideas with Chancellor Aviles-Ramos and her team about these commitments and other topics that are important to each community.
"Families are the backbone of our school communities, and that's why our administration is committed to engaging parents and families in their children's education so that every child has what they need to advance and succeed," said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. "I commend Chancellor Aviles-Ramos for prioritizing community dialogue, and I look forward to working with New York City Public Schools to ensure the feedback we get from these meetings turns into actionable results."
"In a city as large and diverse as ours, it is critical that we create opportunities to foster collaboration and bring every voice to the table," said Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos. "As a parent and former teacher and school leader myself, family and community empowerment is absolutely essential to me. Through this listening tour, I hope to gain a better understanding of our communities' concerns, feedback, and ideas so together we can continue to strengthen New York City Public Schools."
Following each event, the feedback collected will be carefully analyzed to identify trends, highlight gaps in services, and determine areas for improvement, as well as areas that are performing well and should remain unchanged or expanded, and will feed into a report to be released later this winter.
