CABEI makes first disbursement for the Honduras Resilient Roads Program

Tegucigalpa, November 1, 2024. - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) made its first disbursement of US$75.9 million out of a total of US$606.9 million for the "Honduras Resilient Roads Program (PCR-HN)." This initiative is expected to improve the country's competitiveness and the quality of life of more than two million Hondurans.

The program is designed to promote economic and social growth by improving land connectivity, covering 308 kilometers in five strategic tranches in the northern and eastern regions of the country. This first disbursement will facilitate progress in the rehabilitation and expansion of 78 kilometers of the Danlí-Trojes highway, scheduled to begin between November and December of this year.

In addition to the rehabilitation of the Danlí-Trojes tranche, the PCR-HN includes interventions on the Ojo de Agua-Cantarranas highway, rehabilitation of an important central connection, and on the Tourism Corridor, which connects La Barca-El Progreso with Tela and La Ceiba, a crucial link between tourist destinations in the north. It is estimated that these works will benefit 175,000 drivers who travel these routes daily, generating 3,600 temporary jobs during the construction phase. These investments will facilitate the transportation of merchandise and people, promoting a balanced commerce of exports and imports, which will contribute to the strengthening of the national economy and the creation of new job opportunities.

The Secretariat of State in the Offices of Infrastructure and Transportation (SIT) is the program's Executing Agency. It will supervise the execution of the works and their subsequent maintenance. This approach guarantees the quality and sustainability of the road improvements.
