Piihana Road brush fire closes portion of highway in Wailuku

After a brush fire was reported off Pi'ihana Road, Maui Police Department (MPD) closed Kahekili Highway from Pi'ihana Road to Kamaile Street this afternoon, Oct. 24, 2024.

MPD advised evacuation for one residence along Pi'ihana Road because the residence is in close vicinity to the brush fire, according to MPD.

Maui Fire Department (MFD) has been responding to the Pi'ihana Road brush fire, estimated around two to three acres, with Air 1, Air 2, Engine 1, Engine 10, Tanker 10, Engine14, Tanker 14, Engine 50, Hazmat 10, Relief Tanker 10 and two battalion chiefs, along with private tankers from Alpha and Hawaiian Dredging.

There have been no reports of injuries or damages. No containment percentages are available at this time, but MFD said all flame activity has been knocked down.

The brush fire was first reported at 2:40 p.m. this afternoon, according to MFD. Maui Emergency Management Agency has been partially activated.
