Palm Beach County’s Victim Services, Partners with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to Remember DUI Victims and Survivors

According to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in 2023 Palm Beach County law enforcement arrested 1,920 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. Impaired drivers were 1,083 total crashes, 67 serious injuries, and 45 fatalities. For the past 43 years, December has been recognized as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month underscoring the ongoing need to raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

During December, the roadways are especially busy, with a marked increase in alcohol and drug-related traffic crashes. The pain caused by one person's choice to drive impaired is permanent. Every death resulting from impaired driving leaves a permanent empty seat at a family's table and can turn a holiday celebration into heartbreaking losses. Impaired driving injuries and deaths are 100 percent avoidable.

To honor each life impacted by impaired driving, the Public Safety Department's Division of Victim Services (PSDVS) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) are joining together to host a Victim Remembrance Memorial. This event will raise awareness of the devastating consequences of impaired driving while honoring victims, survivors, their families, and friends affected by this preventable crime. PSDVS and MADD invite anyone impacted by an impaired driver to attend the Candlelight Vigil. The memorial will be held December 4, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Boynton Beach City Hall Amphitheater, 100 East Ocean Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL 33435.

To RSVP, please e-mail [email protected], and include a picture of your loved one. If you have any questions, please reach out to Carrie Gale, DUI Project Coordinator, PSDVS at 561-355-2383.
