UNM College of Nursing, School of Engineering ranked among top-100 in the latest US News & World Report rankings

Two colleges/schools at The University of New Mexico including the College of Nursing and the School of Engineering, earned top-100 rankings in the latest 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings released today.

The highest-ranked UNM program was the College of Nursing, ranked No. 54, up 13 spots from its previous ranking out of 686 schools surveyed and among the top-10 percent of Undergraduate Nursing Programs. The SOE also earned top-100 recognition at No. 90 for Undergraduate Engineering Programs among schools whose highest degree is a doctorate.

As an institution, UNM was ranked No. 126 in the Top Public Schools category and was ranked No. 231 in the National Universities category, including private schools.

Overall, UNM had six programs/schools ranked among the top-150 in the nation, including:

• No. 54 (tie) - Undergraduate Nursing Programs
• No. 90 (tie) - Undergraduate Engineering Programs (Doctorate)
• No. 111 (tie) - Undergraduate Computer Science Programs
• No. 129 (tie) - Top Public Schools (National Universities)
• No. 131 (tie) - Undergraduate Psychology Programs
• No. 147 (tie) - Undergraduate Business Programs

Additionally, UNM also had its Undergraduate Economics Program ranked at No. 198 (tie), and was also ranked among Top Performers on Social Mobility (No. 236, tie).

Educating more than 1,070 students across New Mexico while offering a wide range of programs aimed to equip the next generation of nursing professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to make a meaningful impact, the College of Nursing prepares students to meet today's health care demands, especially in rural and underserved areas.

The College of Nursing provides a well-rounded curriculum for its students, including impactful sessions in a state-of-the-art simulation center and skills lab that give students safe, structured, hands-on patient experiences with high-fidelity manikins and faculty guidance. Program experiences like this enhance a student's exposure to various clinical encounters and is a part of why the BSN program ranks so highly.

Statewide, UNM has the best national rankings among New Mexico universities including the categories of best university, undergraduate nursing, top public school, undergraduate engineering (Doctorate) and business schools.

For the past 40 years, U.S. News & World Report has produced the Best Colleges ranked nearly 1,500 U.S. four-year bachelor's degree-granting institutions, grouped within 10 distinct overall rankings where colleges and universities were compared with schools that shared their academic mission. National Universities offer a range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates.
