De-stress resources available during election week

Marquette is providing a number of resources for those on campus who are experiencing heightened stress during and after the 2024 general election.

All are invited to visit AMU 254 on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to enjoy tea and snacks, a space to relax, and other resources.

The Office of Inclusion and Belonging will also host a De-stress Fest that day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of First-Gen Week. Stop by the Center for Inclusion and Engagement in AMU 111, the LGBTQ+ Resource Center in AMU 140, the EOP offices on the third floor of Coughlin Hall, and the Lemonis Center for Student Success Reading Room for de-stress activities and to speak with staff.

The Arrupe Center for Community Service and Social Responsibility will host a Narrative 4 post-election story exchange focused on finding community and commonality after the election on Friday, Nov. 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in AMU 137. The event is open to all students, faculty and community members. No RSVP is required, but it is encouraged.

All campus Masses from Nov. 3-9 will have prayers for the election and our nation. In addition, members of the Marquette community are encouraged to spend time in one of the university's sacred spaces, which will be open for prayer, reflection and as a place for peacefulness. Students are encouraged to connect with a campus minister,hall minister, or affiliated minister for conversation. And students are always welcome stop by the Campus Ministry office (AMU 236) to connect with a campus minister or fellow students.

All are also encouraged to utilize campus resources available all year long.

For faculty and staff, counselors are available 24/7 through Marquette's employee assistance program. Counselors can be reached at 1-800-634-6433 or through the website. Use password: MU1.

Marquette Counseling Center staff are available for students for drop-in visits and by appointment in Holthusen Hall; visit or call 414-288-7172. The Counseling Center is staffed in person, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., during the week, and counselors are available 24/7 via phone.
