City of Augusta Honors Legacy of Tom Wiedmeier with Building Naming Ceremony

Augusta, Georgia Government announces the naming of the Augusta Utilities, Augusta Engineering, and NRCS Administration Building in honor of former Utilities Director Tom Wiedmeier, whose leadership and dedication to Augusta, Georgia left an indelible mark on the community's water services. The naming ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, 10:00a.m. at 452 Walker Street.

Wiedmeier served as the Director of Augusta Utilities from November 2009 until his passing August 2020. During his leadership at Augusta Utilities, he spearheaded initiatives that improved the delivery of services and quality of water for residents and businesses alike. "Tom Wiedmeier's legacy is one of dedication, innovation, and a profound commitment to serving all residents of Augusta - Richmond County. It is only fitting that this building, which continues to be at the heart of our water operations, bears his name, said Wes Byne, Director of Utilities."

The ceremony will include remarks from community leaders, colleagues, and family members, as well as a commemorative unveiling of the building's new signage.

Members of the public are invited to attend and celebrate the life and contributions of Tom Wiedmeier, whose vision helped shape the foundation of Augusta's water.
