State Police investigates a fatal in the town of Schroon

On November 1, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., State Police members responded to Interstate 87 northbound for a trailer tractor that went off the roadway. An investigation determined a 2025 Freightliner tractor-trailer, operated by Brian E. Canavan, age 61, of Chittenango, NY, was traveling north on I87 in the town of Schroon when the tractor-trailer exited the west shoulder and struck an earth embankment. The tractor-trailer continues striking multiple trees, overturns, and comes to rest on its passenger side. Canavan was pronounced deceased on the scene.
