IGF-D Publishes Messages from Berlin

IGF-D Publishes Messages from Berlin

Sabrina Heber Dec 16, 2024 1 min read

In mid-September, Germany's internet governance community came together in Berlin for the Internet Governance Forum Germany (IGF-D) to discuss current topics and processes in the field of digital policy and internet governance. The messages resulting from the discussions are now available. While no decisions are made within the IGF-D, it serves as a multistakeholder discussion platform and summarises the most important key points from the discussions in the messages. These will be taken to the Global Internet Governance Forum, which will take place from 15-19 December in Riyadh.

IGF themes and IGF-D focus

Based on the four themes of the global IGF

  • "Harnessing innovation and balancing risks in the digital space",
  • "Enhancing the digital contribution to peace, development, and sustainability",
  • "Advancing human rights and inclusion in the digital age" and
  • "Improving digital governance for the Internet We Want"

the German IGF placed a focus on

  • "Harnessing innovation and balancing risks in the digital space",
  • "Improving digital governance for the Internet We Want".

IGF program includes IGF-D topics

The Call for Proposals resulted in a program that covered the Global Digital Compact, the multistakeholder principle, digital identities, the sustainable operation of the internet and the protection of children and young people in the media. These topics can also be found in the programme of the global IGF, so that the core messages of the discussion of the German Internet governance community can be introduced with the IGF-D messages.

DENIC will be represented at the IGF in Riyadh.
