Dec. 5
Geroscience is the study of the genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms that make aging a risk factor and driver of common chronic conditions and diseases of older people. This NAM workshop, sponsored by AARP and the John A. Hartford Foundation, will examine societal issues and considerations as the field of geroscience advances, such as bioethics, equity and access, cost, and consumer rights.

Achieving the nation's climate and sustainability goals will require finding new methods for manufacturing essential consumer products from non-fossil carbon sources, such as carbon dioxide, and ensuring that their life cycle from production to disposal does not contribute additional GHG emissions. Speakers will discuss emerging technologies, identify key challenges, and consider necessary changes to current policy, economic, and regulatory structures.

This event, co-hosted by the NAM's Clinician Well-Being Collaborative and UC San Diego Health, will bring together experts, clinicians, and technology innovators to explore how AI can enhance clinical practice, streamline workflows, and improve overall job satisfaction to help address burnout and other pressures on the health workforce.
This workshop will examine how physical, cyber, supply chain, and public health infrastructure can be made more resilient to impacts from disasters and emergencies to ensure continuity of health operations.

This seminar will include updates from federal agencies on improving estimates of the distributions of income, consumption, and saving; pilot projects creating new data and statistics; and reflections on policy and research opportunities created by better data and statistics on household income, consumption, and wealth.
Gulf of Mexico-Alaska Knowledge Exchange on Oil Spills
Dec. 10 and 11
Major oil spills have deeply impacted the communities, environments, and economies of Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico region. This workshop will take place in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and online, and will focus on how oil spills alter community well-being and health, ecological impacts, and methods to increase local community capacity, resilience, and preparedness.

Part of a series of webinars on health care decarbonization, this webinar will discuss decarbonization and sustainability practices for health professionals, including strategies such as telework and telemedicine, the reduction or replacement of anesthetic gases, and other initiatives.

This is the first meeting of a consensus study committee examining technologies and practices for plugging and remediating orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells. The committee will discuss its statement of work with the sponsor, the U.S. Department of the Interior's Orphaned Wells Program Office.

This town hall will focus on key cross-cutting themes pertinent to cumulative impact assessments and invite community members to share their experiences with cumulative impact assessments and their application at the community level.

Adult Learning in the Military Context
This report will offer recommendations related to supporting learning in the military as well as provide a research agenda for the Army Research Institute.
A New Vision for Women's Health Research
Despite significant advances in health care, women's health research has historically been underfunded and overlooked, and critical gaps remain. This report assesses funding levels for women's health research at NIH, and makes recommendations for NIH funding, structure, policies, and programs that can catalyze women's health research.
The Next Decade of Discovery in Solar and Space Physics: Exploring and Safeguarding Humanity's Home in Space
Every 10 years, the National Academies survey the field of solar and space physics and map a comprehensive research strategy and vision for the next decade of science and exploration on Earth and in space.
Preventing and Treating Dementia: Research Priorities to Accelerate Progress
Affecting over 6.5 million Americans, dementia causes devastating impacts to health. Despite recent advances in the understanding of dementia, there remains significant need for progress to effectively prevent and treat it. This report will assess the current state of research and identify research priorities for treating and preventing dementia.
