RENO, Nev., Nov. 26, 2024 - Molina Healthcare of Nevada ("Molina") sponsored and partici-pated in Nevada's 2024 Celebration of National Rural Health Day.
The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine ("UNR Med") State Office of Rural Health and
Nevada Rural Hospital Partners presented the sold-out event to spotlight healthcare challenges in rural communities.
According to UNR Med Office of Statewide Initiatives' Nevada Rural and Frontier Health Data Book, the number of primary care physicians in rural and frontier counties is
43 per 100,000 population, as compared to 89 per 100,000 population in urban areas, which can make it chal-lenging for rural residents to access health care.
"Molina was honored to partner with UNR Med and Nevada Rural Hospital Partners on this im-portant event to recognize the selfless work of our health care providers from rural Nevada who are dedicated to serving their patients and bridging barriers to care," said Rob Baughman, plan president at Molina Healthcare of Nevada. "We're committed to improving access to health care for Nevadans, including families living and working in our rural and frontier communities."
This year's event recognized the
National Health Service Corps, a federal program providing scholarships and loan repayment for more than 17,000 primary care medical, dental, and behavioral health providers in communities with significant health professional shortages.
