Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV1) announced today that the Nevada System of Higher Education will receive a $519,376 federal grant to address threats such as the mass shooting at UNLV in December 2023 that killed three professors and seriously wounded another.

"December 26, 2023, was the most tragic day in the history of UNLV. We are still mourning those professors who lost their lives."

Congresswoman Titus said. "This grant will help prevent such a tragedy in the future by better identifying threats of violence through creation of threat assessment teams; enabling students, university staff and the public to detect potential threats; and implementing plans to safeguard students, faculty, university staff, and visitors to our campuses."

The grant was made by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to the Nevada System of Higher Education's Threat Prevention, Safety, and Awareness Initiative. It was among 35 grants totaling $18 million made under the department's Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Grant Program for FY2024.

Congresswoman Titus, who previously served on the House Committee on Homeland Security, has been a consistent supporter of DHS funding for terrorism protection and other programs to harden security.
