Frederick Police Executes Search Warrant, Arrests Suspect for Drug and Firearms Offenses

On October 29, 2024, members of the Frederick Police Department's Tactical Investigations Unit (TIU), in collaboration with the Special Response Team (SRT) and partner agencies, executed a search warrant at the apartment of Leonard Anthony Morris, a resident of Frederick City. The warrant was obtained by Detective Patrick Spevak following a thorough investigation into Morris's alleged involvement in the distribution of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) and illegal firearms activity.

During the search, law enforcement officials recovered the following items:

  • Glock 20 handgun with a loaded extended magazine
  • Poly 80 PF940C 9mm handgun with a loaded extended magazine, lacking a serial number, equipped with a "Glock Switch"
  • TACR112C rifle with a loaded magazine
  • EP Armory homemade assault rifle receiver with no serial number
  • 9mm assault rifle barrel with no serial number
  • Glock switch, capable of converting a semi-automatic pistol to a fully automatic firearm
  • Hundreds of rounds of various ammunition (.40 caliber, .22 LR, and .223 caliber)
  • $1,833 in U.S. currency
  • 77.5 grams of cocaine
  • 373 grams of cannabis/marijuana
  • 36 Alprazolam pills
  • 9 ounces of Promethazine

Subsequent checks revealed that one of the firearms, a tactical .22 long rifle, had been reported stolen in Baltimore County on April 3, 2024.

Leonard Anthony Morris, who is currently on probation until 2028 due to a felony conviction in 2022 for possession with intent to distribute CDS and minor in possession of a handgun, was arrested and is facing multiple charges related to illegal firearm possession and drug offenses. Morris is currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.

This investigation was a coordinated effort between the Frederick Police Department, United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), the Frederick County States Attorney's Office, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Brunswick Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN). The Governor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy provides grant funding and strategic support to MCIN member sites to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal organizations through inter-agency collaboration and data sharing to make Maryland safer.
