A Portland Police Sergeant was not seriously injured after being rear-ended in a hit-and-run crash in the St. Johns Neighborhood.

On Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 9:13 a.m., the sergeant, who is assigned to North Precinct, was stopped at a red light at North Fessenden Street and North Columbia Way. The driver of a Ford F250 pickup struck both a Mazda minivan and the Sergeant's 2017 Ford Interceptor Utility, pushing both vehicles forward and causing significant damage. The driver of the pickup briefly stopped, then started driving away. His vehicle was damaged however, so he abandoned it and ran away.

Numerous officers responded to the scene to assist in searching for the suspect. However, after a track that included a PPB K9 unit, the man was not located and there were no immediate arrests.

There were no significant injuries and no one went to the hospital.

The investigation is continuing. The suspect's vehicle was seized as evidence, and the police vehicle had to be towed due to the severity of the damage. The minivan's driver was able to drive away after being interviewed by police.

If anyone has information about the identity of the suspect driver, or about this crash, please e-mail [email protected] attn: Traffic Investigations Unit and reference case number 24-274522.
