Opera Southeastern to present “La Bohème” on October 16

Opera Southeastern will some of the University's top student talent when it presents the masterpiece La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Montgomery Auditorium.

As with all Southeastern Music performances, admission is free and open to the public. There will be a 15-minute intermission between acts. Sung in Italian, the production will include projected supertitles for the audience.

A doomed love story set in the streets of 18th century Paris, Puccini's La Bohème is one of the most well-known and best-loved operas ever written and has pervaded modern culture, serving as the source material for the 1996 hit Broadway musical, Rent. Like all of Puccini's operas, La Bohème is a challenge for the vocalists, but a delight for the audience.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to explore new vocal techniques and emotional ranges," said Dr. Stella Yoon, Artistic Director and Southeastern Voice Professor. "The drama and inspiring melodies draw the audience in with its compelling, yet tragic, story."

Students performing in this production include Averie Attaway, Diego Perez, Haylie Kreitz, Joseph Bowen, Ryan Carlile, Hugo Govea, Mauricio Salazar, Riley Wilhite, Javier Rodgrigo, Zane Barta, John Gibbons, Jacob Wood, Chloe Handerson, Colours Starsick, Molly Coleman, Emily Parnell, and Hannah Hollander.

Those needing assistance due to a disability should contact the music department at (580)745-2088 for assistance. Accommodations cannot be guaranteed without adequate advanced notice.
