2024 BSNC Tim Towarak Memorial Scholarship Awardee

BSNC is proud to announce Kylie Evans as the recipient of the 2024 awardee for the Beringia Settlement Trust (BST) Tim Towarak Memorial Scholarship. This $10,000 merit-based competitive scholarship is awarded annually to one high-performing student enrolled in an accredited college or university. The scholarship honors the late Tim Towarak, who worked tirelessly to advocate for Alaska Native people.

Currently a senior at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Evans is pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. She chose this field of study to align with her passion for helping her community within the Bering Straits region and her desire to support Our People. From a young age, she has been committed to advocating for others, drawing inspiration from her Inupiaq culture. She is determined to incorporate cultural values into her future career and is excited to apply what she has learned in college.

Evans, whose Inupiaq names are Maktuaya and Kupik, has deep roots in Nome, Alaska, where she spent most of her life before moving to Anchorage. She also has family ties to Teller and Shishmaref. Evan's parents are Lucille Sands and David Evans, and her maternal grandparents are Dolly Kugzruk and Glenn Carter. Her paternal grandparents are Laura and Robert Evans. Evans enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors and engaging in subsistence activities. Her favorite pastime is walking along the beach back home and beachcombing.

Please join us in congratulating Kylie Evans as the 2024 Tim Towarak Scholarship recipient. We wish her continued success as she prepares to graduate and make a positive impact in her community.
