Stevenson Welcomes Phil Contrino, 2024 Film and Moving Image Program Artist in Residence

This semester, Stevenson's Film and Moving Image (FMI) program has hosted Phil Contrino as its artist-in-residence. He will be on campus from November 4-6, visiting classes and speaking to students about theatrical distribution. His time on campus will culminate in a lecture about his work and the state of the industry on Wednesday, November 6, at 7 p.m. in the Philip A. Zaffere Library event space (PAZ 104). The event will be preceded by a reception beginning at 6 p.m.

Contrino is the Director of Media and Research for the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), the largest exhibition trade organization in the world. NATO represents over 30,000 movie screens in all 50 states, and additional cinemas in 88 countries worldwide. In his role, Contrino oversees all research for NATO and helps guide the association's strategy with the press. He oversaw the communication strategy for National Cinema Day in 2023, an event that resulted in 8.5 million admissions in movie theatres nationwide.

Prior to joining NATO, Phil worked with The Boxoffice Company for more than seven years. While at The Boxoffice Company, he created a data/prediction business, built relationships with trade publications in India and China, and was quoted regularly by CNN, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and many others.
