Olympia Seeks to Fill Vacancies on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and the Olympia Metropolitan Park District Advisory Committee

The City of Olympia is seeking community members interested in serving on City's Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC), and the Olympia Metropolitan Park District Advisory Committee. Advisory bodies provide a structured way for residents to share opinions and perspectives, study issues, develop recommendations, and provide advice from the community perspective to the Olympia City Council.

The application period is open and runs until Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at 4 p.m. Membership terms on advisory bodies generally run for three years, with appointments beginning on April 1 and terms ending March 31. Applications are being accepted for vacancies and upcoming vacancies on:

Park and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC): There are two (2) vacancies open on this Committee. PRAC makes recommendations to the City Council regarding parks and recreation plans, policies, programs and projects; and serves as liaison between community members and the Council on parks and recreation-related matters.

Olympia Metropolitan Park District (OMPD) Advisory Committee: There is one (1) "at-large" vacancy open on this Committee. The OMPD Advisory Committee provides oversight to the Olympia Metropolitan Park District, a junior property taxing district with special taxing authority for the management, control, improvement, maintenance, and acquisition of parks, pathways, boulevards, recreational facilities, programs, and services. This Committee advises the City and District and provides an annual report on the City's compliance with the funding levels identified in an interlocal agreement between the City and the District. Members serve a four-year term and are appointed by the OMPD Board.
