Allen Warch, Dollar General's vice president and division merchandise manager for food and fresh produce, was recently honored as one of seven 'People Who Made a Difference' by Mass Market Retailers. The recognition highlights individuals making significant contributions in the retail space, impacting consumers and communities.
Since joining DG in 2022, Warch has led efforts to increase accessibility to fresh foods, including produce, for thousands of underserved communities across the 48 states in which DG operates.
"Dollar General has the opportunity to fill gaps. We have a wide assortment of products from top brands and as a result, many communities are requesting us to place stores in underserved areas," said Warch. "When you think about what the challenges are for a household, the range varies and there are different needs. DG is able to address most of those needs. That's the beauty of being the country's general store."
In 2023, DG announced a 'Food First' initiative, which included a more efficient shopping experience for food, the expansion of Clover Valley private brand products and increased access to fresh and frozen foods. Dollar General's recent produce expansion has garnered the Company the designation of having more individual points of produce distribution than any other mass retailer or grocer in the United States.
Profiles of the 2024 'People Who Made a Difference' honorees were published in the November 25 issue of MMR.
